Flatland

Flatland a Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A Abbott

No this book does not say that this world is flat. But it is about Dimensions. It’s basically a fantasy story about a world that is flat or 2D. It is kind of a math’s book, it was written over one hundred years ago so it may seem dated in parts, but it is thought provoking to think there could be dimensions out there but we can’t see or understand. I like to think of a metaphor about a fish in a fish bowl. We are in the inside and we can’t grasp what is on the outside as we have no concept of what it would be like, we could guess thou.

It is a very thin book and has only 83 pages. I wouldn’t really recommend this book for a casual read, more for somebody who maybe mathematical minded and maybe interested in physics.

The Basic Book Of Photography by Tom Grimm and Michele Grimm

The Basic Book of Photography, The Classic Guide 2004 Edition,

This is a very good book and I would recommend this to anybody who is starting out in Photography it covers all the basics and teaches you how to make a good photo (untimely its up to you I believe) and covers digital cameras but not in depth as its main focus is the technical side and focusing on how to make a good shoot.

It covers lighting and choosing lens. This book I would highly recommend.

The Skeptic’s Dictionary

This book is exactly what it says, it’s a Dictionary for the Skeptic, and it covers subjects from ESP to the Yeti. It is a very good book, each subject is covered well and tries to be scientific and is for the open minded.

It has a decent Bibliography which tells you that this book has been researched quite well.

This book I would recommend, you can start to read any section and as much or as little as you like, I think that it would appeal to a wide audience.

Godel, Escher, Bach an Eternal Golden Braid.

This book is not to be read lightly it is very complicated and very hard to understand , if you like Escher and Gödel, this book tries to make there works seem it is symmetrical and ‘Recursive’.

It is a hard book to read and I don’t fully understand whole book, I think there maybe hidden messages in there for the real brainiacs.

It talks about A.I and maths and systems, and a whole lot of stuff I don’t understand. Very philosophical.

M.C Escher The Life and Complete Graphic Work

This is a brilliant book if you like the works of M.C Escher it has a lot of his drawings and some background to his life like where he was born ect. And how he came to develop his works.

One of my favorites, (there are many) is ‘Relativity’ and ‘Print Gallery’ so much detail and complexity. He was a genius.

It’s a book that people would like if they like optical illusion and also being confused.

Labyrinths – By Jorge Luis Borges

This is an Excellent book, I must admit this is quite hard to read in places (for myself that it) it has some timeless stories, like ‘The Library of Babel’ it is something not of this earth or time. I must admit I have had to try and read some of his stories a few times and also there are some that I don’t understand or missed the undercurrent plot.

Well it’s worth a read if you want to read something different.
